January 2012. Popular South African rock outfit Watershed is busy with a national, three-month tour that kicked off in Johannesburg last year and will include a rare KwaZulu-Natal date at Sibaya Casino near Umdloti on Thursday, January 12, 2012.
The “Laying New Tracks” tour is driven by front-man Craig Hinds and covers large and small venues in major cities and towns across the country. One of the highlights of the tour is that Watershed will be showcasing new material, including their new single Water, which is scheduled to hit the radio and television airwaves in the coming weeks.
“We are using this tour as an opportunity to perform the songs that people know, but will also be playing some new material that we have written for our new album which will be out in 2012,” said Craig, who is also working on his debut solo project, which will be out next year as well.
Craig is one of the country’s most prolific song writers, having spent time in Nashville, Tennessee and having written with Sir Tim Rice and for current Idols winner Dave van Vuuren.
Watershed shot to fame with their single Indigo Girl in 2000. The song received highly acclaimed European success for the band, selling 100 000 copies in the process.
The setting for the shows will be very intimate with Craig taking fans on a journey on how each song was created and sharing some personal insights as a member of one of South Africa’s leading and long-standing bands. Craig will be joined on stage by talented guitarist Ian Bushell and James Sunney on double bass and vocals. The shows will be extensively documented on social media platforms with votes open to the general public on what songs they would like to see appear on the new album as well as Craig’s solo project.
