Review: Selborne Hotel and Spa

Selborne Hotel and Spa at Pennington is one of the greatest spots along this beautiful stretch of coastline: a wonderfully big and atmospheric country lodge set amid huge shady trees and graceful gardens.

Famed for its excellent golf course, Selborne is ideal not just for a weekend of luxurious tranquillity, but also for those looking for a Sunday lunch option. In fact, it’s well known for its Sunday buffets, attracting diners from far and wide.

The hotel itself is a fabulous old manor house, with exquisite decor and wonderfully comfy fat sofas . . . the accommodation is sublime, and if I’d had a few days longer, I would probably have spent at least some of them under the duvet in my superb big bed! (Note: if you can afford it, be completely reckless and book into the Presidential Suite! It’s truly divine!)

Selborne Hotel and Spa

The cuisine is outstanding, and when you feel the need to walk it off, you might be lucky enough to bump into a wide-eyed buck or three nibbling at the verdant lawn in the spacious grounds.

Of course, you could always book a self-pampering and rejuvenating treatment at the hotel’s superbly equipped spa, where expert therapists will take care of your every need – or you might prefer to just recline on the terrace and soak up the ambience of the surrounding indigenous coastal forest.

Either way, Selborne is definitely worth a visit.
