Melanie Lowe in concert

January 11, 2012. The Stirling Theatre in Durban North hosts two Durban performers sharing the stage to showcase each of their new albums. Melanie Lowe and Krystle T have each recently launched brand new albums and decided to share the bill for four nights only in February, to showcase their original music.

Melanie Lowe is certainly no stranger to Durban audiences. A veteran of reality TV show Idols, where she was second runner up, she has performed across the country alongside international stars, and her music has been played on every radio station in the country. Melanie has also won a prestigious South African Music Award.

September 2011 saw the release of Melanie’s fourth studio album, I Choose Me. A far rockier, more honest look at her life through song, Melanie has stripped herself of all her previous personas and taken a deep, hard look at the woman she has become. This year, Melanie became the first female celebrity to take part in a same-sex marriage after grappling to come to terms with people’s perceptions. After taking such a bold step, she has laid herself bare to the public and has been met with much support and respect by not only the gay community, but the rest of the country as well.

Organic

I Choose Me was co-produced by Tree63 front man John Ellis, and maintains a far more organic and raw sound than her previous work. In Melanie’s own words, it’s “a little rougher around the edges than usual”. According to the artist, she not only has a brand new image to boot, but an inner peace that comes across in a positively fierce and focused way. Certainly sounds worthy of further investigation.

Melanie Lowe, Krystle T

Krystle T will perform alongside Melanie Lowe at the Stirling Theatre in Durban North during February

Durban singer and songwriter Krystle T will be joining Melanie on stage. Krystle T has had an interesting journey to the realms of professional musician and recording artist. Resigning from her day job to audition for Idols in 2009 (where she made the Top 35), this determined musician started the journey to write her first album, while performing in and around Durban in various supper theatre shows.

Krystle found the right recording team in producer and fellow performer John Ellis, Greg Bedford, ace guitarist Josh Klynsmith and Tammy Saville, and the album Closer to the Fire was made.

Two talented, dedicated original music artists on one stage. Sounds like something worth investigating.
